Mac Drivers For Samsung Printers

Universal Print Driver is compatible with samsung printer or multi-function printers (MFP) that use the PCL6 or PostScript languages, which means that different devices from different manufacturers can be accessed under one driver. Samsung Universal Print Driver is also compatible with macOS 11.0 or big sur, and Windows.

Mac Drivers For Samsung Printers

I'm surprised you actually managed to find one - that thing's ancient! The last supported version of MacOS (more accurately Mac OSX) was Lion (10.7), which was released 10.5 years ago. Samsung's printer division was acquired by HP in September 2016, and it promptly discontinued support for all Samsung-badged printers (most of which were obsolete by that point, anyway).

Are there any alternative Mac drivers for Samsung printers?I've got an old (2003) Samsung ML-1510. The only Mac driver available requires Rosetta (PPC emulation) to get installed.According to various news sites, Mac OS 10.7 will drop Rosetta. So I'm looking for alternative drivers. I checked Gutenprint but the ML-1510 isn't in the list of supported printers.

An alternative would be to set up some kind of print server using older, but fully compatible software. You could do it as a VM or use an old computer. That said, the modern versions of Samsung's printers that compete with your model are fairly inexpensive too. But you're probably like me, unwilling to throw out hardware that's otherwise completely functional for your needs.

If you navigate to the printer's website (it's an HP website nowadays, because at the time HP bought the whole Samsung printers division) you'll find that the latest available driver is for Mac 10.15. We are - at the moment of this blog post - at Mac 12.4!

Also, if a printer is set up twice with different drivers it doesn't work with any of them. So you should only have one printer in Settings > Printers (per each device). You can have both driver packs installed on your system, though.

Currently, not all printers have drivers suitable for use with macOS Monterey due to the operating system being new. However, most printer manufacturers have compiled some information on printers with driver support.

Please note: Apple no longer provides support for printer driver updates through Apple Software Update (ASU) for most printer manufacturers anymore. You will either find these drivers directly from the printer manufacturers websites or use the Apple AirPrint feature if available on your printer.

macOS Monterey is incompatible with any 32-bit applications. Anything designed for this now would be 64-bit.If you could let me know which printer model you have I could check the drivers for you. Alternatively, it should be compatible via Apple Airprint.

There are many possible drivers for Canon printers. Many Canon printers are supported by Gutenprint and foomatic-db-ppds. Some of Canon's LBP, iR, and MF printers use a driver supporting the UFR II/UFR II LT/LIPSLX protocols, #UFRII . Others use the #CARPS, or #cnijfilter (cnijfilter2AUR / cnijfilter2-binAUR), or Canon CAPT drivers.

Many LBP, iR, and MF printers use a protocol that has had several names over the years: UFR II, UFR II LT, LIPSLX. There are multiple packages for these printers in AUR, and at least the imageCLASS MF4570dn and i-sensys MF633C are reported to only work with the older v3.70 version.

Some of Canon's printers use Canon's proprietary CARPS (Canon Advanced Raster Printing System) driver.Rainbow Software have managed to reverse engineer the CARPS data format and have successfully created a CARPS CUPS driver, which is available as carps-cups-gitAUR.The project's GitHub page includes a list of working printers.

Some of the PPD files in epson-inkjet-printer-escpr2AUR are missing paper size definitions for media that is supported by the printers and the filter. It is relatively straightforward to add the missing media types to the PPD files.

hplip provides drivers for HP DeskJet, OfficeJet, Photosmart, Business Inkjet, and some LaserJet printers, and also provides an easy to use setup tool. See -linux-imaging-and-printing/supported_devices/index for the list of supported printers. hplip requires python-pyqt5 to run the GUI qt frontend. hp-setup requires CUPS to be installed and cups.service to be started to save the printer.

Install openprinting-ppds-pxlmono-ricohAUR if your device is black and white, or openprinting-ppds-pxlcolor-ricohAUR if it is color. Note that Ricoh copiers are sometimes branded as Savin, Gestetner, Lanier, Rex-Rotary, Nashuatec, and/or IKON. So, if you have a device bearing one of these brands, it may be supported by these drivers as well.

Since 2016, or 2017, Samsung is no longer in the printers/scanners business. As of 2019, HP partially support some of Samsung printers/scanners. Before 2016, Samsung was a major player. Which is why there are still many Samsung machines around. In addition, Linux, and cups, keep evolving. The bottom line of all this is that supporting Samsung products is at a flux.

A major site for information about Samsung printers/scanners is Samsung Unified Linux Driver Repository. Despite its name, it is not affiliated by Samsung. Neither it is devoted only to samsung-unified-driverAUR. samsung-unified-driver, on the other hand, is close source by Samsung. It also encompass Windows and Mac. It might be the first stop to get a driver for a Samsung printer and scanner as it, or was, claim to support practically every one of these. Note that samsung-unified-driver includes software that can stand on its own, not tied to cups. If you can not get the printer to work with cups, you might try this route.

You should also note that many Samsung printers support PostScript. Chances are that it will work with CUPS generic postscript printer, especially if it is only black & white and only printer, without a scanner added to it. Generic driver may be missing functionality or limited, for example in their support for duplex, color control, and resolution settings, and print quality may be lower.

OK, So I finally got very fed up with this and called Xerox and played phone-tag with Level 2 IT support until we got this figured out. Even if you download the latest MacOS drivers from the Xerox site ... it will default to installing Wi-Fi equipped printers with the "Airprint" version of the driver. DO NOT DO THIS. What you want to do is go to system preferences, printers, delete all the instances of the xerox printer that you have right now, then click on the "+" to add a new one. On the next screen, click the globe/network symbol in the middle of the window, type in the IP address of your printer and make sure you select "IPP" Internet Printing Protocol for the protocol type and NOT "Airprint". Works like a champ. Now I don't have to take a sledgehammer to this printer.

Nevertheless as a Mac user i would expect things to work, and install the printer as specified in the printer Documentation, not to play around with generic drivers and CUPS. Not every user is technical. Not to mention if you have tens of printers like this in a SMB.

In the Printers folder that appears click Edit > Select All then choose File > New folder with Selection to create a new folder containing those drivers. The folder will be named "New Folder With Items" by default, which is fine for our purposes. When we're done you can delete that folder to save space.

When your computer and printer are not connected and the printer is available on your company network or physically attached to your Mac, there are several troubleshooting steps to discover the reason the printer is offline.Once you have re-established a connection to your Mac and verified that the printer drivers and software have installed correctly, you can get back to printing customer invoices, documents for business meetings and notices for employees about important upcoming company events. When working to get your printer back online, start with a basic troubleshooting sequence and see if your printer comes back online after each step. If your printer remains offline, reset the printing system and add the printer again.
